2026 Cadillac CT5 vs. 2026 Audi A6: Where the Cadillac Pulls Ahead

October 3rd, 2026 by

Shopping a midsize luxury sedan usually comes down to two or three cars, and the 2026 Cadillac CT5 and 2026 Audi A6 land on that list constantly. They take genuinely different approaches: Audi gives you one engine, one drivetrain and a beautifully finished cabin, while Cadillac gives you a range that runs from a sensible turbo four to a 668-horsepower supercharged V8, with rear-wheel drive as the starting point. At Allen Turner Cadillac of Auburn, here is how we walk shoppers through the comparison, including the places where the Audi is the better car.

Powertrain: A Range of Choices vs. One Recipe

Audi’s approach to the A6 is admirably simple. Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige all get the same 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, producing 362 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque through a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, with quattro all-wheel drive standard. It is a strong, smooth, well-sorted powertrain, and it is the only one on offer.

Cadillac takes the opposite view. The CT5 Premium Luxury and Sport run a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder making 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft, paired with a ten-speed automatic. Step up to the CT5-V and you get a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 360 horsepower and 405 lb-ft. The CT5-V Blackwing tops the range with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft.

The drivetrain difference is philosophical. Every CT5 is rear-wheel drive as standard with all-wheel drive available, so you can choose the balance you want. Every A6 sedan is all-wheel drive, with no rear-drive option at any price. If you value the way a rear-drive chassis turns in, that choice only exists on one side of this comparison.

There is also a weight story. A rear-drive CT5 with the 2.0-liter starts at 3,663 pounds, while the A6 sedan weighs 4,310 pounds. That is a 647-pound difference, and it shows up in how each car changes direction. It shows up at the pump too: the CT5 2.0T returns an EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined against the A6’s 23.

Super Cruise: The Difference Audi Has No Answer For

If one feature decides this comparison for a lot of buyers, it is this one. Cadillac’s Super Cruise is a hands-free driver assistance system. On compatible roads it handles steering, acceleration and braking, and it performs automatic lane changes without your hands on the wheel. It comes on the CT5 with a three-year OnStar plan included. GM has continued expanding the compatible road network beyond divided highways onto mapped secondary roads.

Audi’s closest equivalent, Adaptive Cruise Assist, combines adaptive cruise control with lane centering and works from a standstill up to highway speeds. It is good at what it does. But Audi’s own documentation is unambiguous about the limitation: both hands must be on the steering wheel. Audi does not offer a hands-free system in the United States.

On a long stretch of I-85 heading toward Montgomery or Atlanta, that is not a spec-sheet distinction. It is a completely different experience of the same drive. It is also the feature we most often suggest people specifically try during a test drive, because reading about it and using it are not the same thing.

Inside: The 33-Inch Horizon Display vs. Audi’s MMI

The CT5’s cabin is organized around a 33-inch curved LED panel that Cadillac calls the Horizon Display, spanning the instrument cluster and center stack in one continuous surface. It runs Google built-in, which means native Google Maps, Google Assistant and Play Store apps without needing to connect a phone first, and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot is standard. An available AKG Studio Audio System handles the music, and a head-up display is offered in the Technology Package.

Audi’s answer is a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen paired with an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display, with an optional 10.9-inch passenger screen that uses a privacy filter so the driver cannot see it. The system runs on Android Automotive underpinnings and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Bang & Olufsen 3D audio and a head-up display are both standard on Premium Plus and Prestige rather than optional.

Cadillac wins on sheer display real estate and on ecosystem depth. Audi wins on making the upgrades standard equipment further up the range, and its passenger display has no CT5 counterpart. Both are strong; they are just solving for different things.

Performance Ceiling: CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing

This is the widest gap between the two cars, and it exists because Audi stepped away from it. There is no gas Audi S6 for 2026. Audi confirmed the model was not offered, leaving the electric S6 Sportback e-tron as the only S6 in the lineup. If you want a gas-powered performance version of the A6, there isn’t one.

Cadillac offers two. The CT5-V pairs 360 horsepower with rear-wheel drive as standard and reaches 60 mph in roughly 4.8 seconds on its way to a 156-mph top speed. The CT5-V Blackwing runs a 668-horsepower supercharged V8, hits 60 mph in about 3.4 seconds with the ten-speed automatic, and tops out at 209 mph.

The Blackwing also does something almost nothing else in this class still does: it comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, with the automatic available instead. No Audi in this segment offers a manual. Browse our new Cadillac inventory to see which V-Series models we have on the ground.

Space, Coverage and Long-Term Ownership

The A6 is the longer car at 196.8 inches to the CT5’s 193.8, but the CT5 rides on the longer wheelbase at 116.0 inches versus 115.1. The Cadillac turns that into rear-seat room: 37.9 inches of rear legroom against the Audi’s 37.2, with 42.4 inches of front legroom. The Audi answers with the larger trunk, 13.5 cubic feet to the Cadillac’s 11.9, which is a fair trade to weigh if you travel with luggage more often than with adults in back.

On coverage, both brands offer a four-year, 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. Cadillac extends powertrain coverage to six years or 70,000 miles and roadside assistance to the same term, where Audi covers powertrain for four years or 50,000 miles and roadside for four years.

Audi has the stronger maintenance program, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. Audi Signature Care, new for 2026, covers all scheduled services for three years or 30,000 miles plus one brake fluid service, standard. Cadillac includes a single first maintenance visit. Audi also offers a longer corrosion perforation warranty at twelve years with unlimited mileage. When your CT5 does need attention, our Cadillac service department in Auburn works on it with factory-trained technicians and genuine GM parts.

Where the Audi A6 Is the Better Car

A comparison that only lists one side’s wins is not worth reading, so here is where the A6 earns its place on your list.

  • More standard power. Every A6 makes 362 horsepower. The CT5 most people will actually drive makes 237.
  • Quicker than any CT5 short of the Blackwing. Zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds beats both the 2.0T CT5 and the CT5-V.
  • Standard all-wheel drive. quattro is included on every A6; all-wheel drive is an extra-cost option on the CT5.
  • Bigger trunk. 13.5 cubic feet against 11.9.
  • More included maintenance. Three years or 30,000 miles of scheduled service versus a single visit.
  • Interior craftsmanship. Reviewers have consistently praised the A6’s material quality, restrained design and the polish of its optional passenger display, and the available air suspension rides beautifully.
  • Aerodynamics. At a 0.23 drag coefficient, the A6 is the most aerodynamic combustion-powered Audi to date, which pays off in highway quiet.

Which One Is Right for You?

Choose the Audi A6 if you want maximum standard power and all-wheel-drive traction without thinking about options, you prioritize interior finish above everything else, you regularly travel with a full trunk, and you would rather have three years of scheduled maintenance handled for you.

Choose the Cadillac CT5 if you want hands-free highway driving, because Audi simply does not offer it. Also choose the CT5 if you want rear-wheel-drive balance, the option of a genuine performance variant, the largest display in the segment, more rear legroom for passengers, longer powertrain coverage, or a lighter and more efficient car for daily driving. And if a manual transmission still matters to you, the Blackwing is one of the last places in luxury motoring you will find one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 2026 Audi A6 have hands-free driving like Cadillac Super Cruise?

No. Audi’s Adaptive Cruise Assist is a hands-on system; Audi’s own documentation states that both hands must remain on the steering wheel. Cadillac’s Super Cruise handles steering, acceleration, braking and automatic lane changes hands-free on compatible roads. It is the single clearest difference between the two cars.

Is the 2026 Cadillac CT5 faster than the 2026 Audi A6?

It depends entirely on which CT5. The A6 sedan reaches 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, which is quicker than the 2.0L turbo CT5 at roughly 6.6 seconds and quicker than the CT5-V at roughly 4.8 seconds. The CT5-V Blackwing, with 668 horsepower, reaches 60 mph in about 3.4 seconds with the automatic and is comfortably the quickest car here.

Is there a 2026 Audi S6 sedan?

No. Audi confirmed there is no gas S6 for the 2026 model year. The only S6 offered is the electric S6 Sportback e-tron. Cadillac still sells two performance sedans in this segment, the CT5-V and the CT5-V Blackwing.

Is the Cadillac CT5 rear-wheel drive?

Yes. The CT5 is rear-wheel drive as standard across Premium Luxury, Sport and CT5-V, with all-wheel drive available. Every Audi A6 sedan comes with quattro all-wheel drive and there is no rear-wheel-drive version offered.

Which has more rear-seat and trunk room, the CT5 or the A6?

The CT5 has more rear legroom at 37.9 inches versus 37.2 inches in the A6, and it rides on a longer 116.0-inch wheelbase. The A6 has the larger trunk at 13.5 cubic feet versus 11.9 cubic feet for the CT5.
